Abstract

A method based on the half-space assumption is developed to calculate the stress distribution in the wheel-rail contact. For the calculation, the stress distributions are discretised using a grid and local functions. Although the method is not an estimation, but a numerical solution of the equations of the contact, it is fast enough for multi-body simulations of railway vehicles.
