Abstract

The increasing requirements placed on the PIV technique have resulted in the need to streamline, and optimise procedures. The motivation for this has come from several sources, continuously increasing the amount of data resulting from higher sensor resolution, higher framing rates and more storage capacity. System parameters, e.g. pulse separation, sample size and grid resolution, need to be optimised. Success in these areas will provide more objective PIV image quality and automatic parameter adjustment will result in more productive testing. The approach used in this work has been to use ensemble correlation to speed up processing and define processing parameters to evaluate individual images. The results from several test programmes were presented to demonstrate the performance of the technique.
