Abstract

Irradiation measurements are necessary for various applications in solar energy or agriculture. Finding an apropriate sensor depends on requirements as necessary accuracy, reliability, available budget and feasibility of access for maintenance. This paper will give some experiences with several sensors, which we are testing at the Plataforma Solar de Almería; performance and quality of their data is compared. Reference system is a Kipp&Zonen equipment with precise thermal sensors: a pyrheliometer for direct and two pyranometer for global and diffus irradiation. Parallel are investigated: Rotating Shadowband Pyranometers (RSP) from Ascension Technology and RSP-2G from Solar Millennium AG, a SDR-1 from Yankee Environmental Systems as well as two scanning irradiation sensors, ‘Soni’ and ‘SCAPP’ from Siggelkow Gerätebau and DWD. An alternative way is the derivation of spatial irradiation maps from satellite data.
