Abstract

This paper deals with the design and evaluation of efficient resource management strategies and dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithms for an MF-TDMA satellite return link with Adaptive Coding and Modulation. Since Adaptive Coding and Modulation methods allow to adapt the modulation and coding rate to the channel state this means that the system capacity also varies with the channel states. For this reason it is important to investigate resource allocation mechanisms which consider this fact and additionally take care of compliance of QoS criteria and fairness. Within this work a new resource allocation architecture and algorithms addressing these criteria are presented and their performance is evaluated in comparative simulations of a DVB-RCS like GEO return link.
