Undercooling and solidification of peritectic Cu-14.8 wt.% Ge alloys were carried out using the glass fluxing technique with and without a static magnetic field of 10 T. The microstructure of the samples was investigated with respect to four different solidification conditions. It was found that the application of the magnetic field tends to promote liquid undercooling in case of no glass fluxing. However, the effect of the magnetic field on liquid undercooling becomes indistinguishable in case of glass fluxing. Thermomagnetic analysis of an arc-melted sample was also performed using a Faraday-balance up to temperatures well above the liquidus. Despite a large magnetic susceptibility, the samples solidified under the magnetic field show no reproducible textures.
