Experiments on the blunt cone model were performed in the HEG high-enthalpy wind tunnel facility. The model was instrumented for both pressure and heat flux measurements. It was tested at two diaphragm burst conditions with two respective enthalpies. Holographic interferometry was employed for the flow field visualization. Test results were compared with numerical calculations. The same model was also tested in the T5 facility at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). A comparison of the results from these two free piston driven shock tunnels is also presented.
