Abstract

Laser-Induced Fluorescence spectroscopy is applied in hypersonic rarefied flow fields as method to measure temperatures and densities.By means of the LIF measurements in an undisturbed hypersonic free jet and in front of a hot model surface details of the heat transfer can be examined. This is relevant to the gas-surface-interaction of reentry vehicles. A new ground test facility for gas-surface- interaction studies at high flow velocities is introduced for this purpose.
