Abstract

The objective of this study is the selection of a suitable flight test vehicle for the HYLDA follow-on project. On the basis of precompetition and the significance of constraints two different procedures offer themselves. If on the one hand the competitive situation with the USA stands in the foreground and if the time constraint is a significant factor, then the choice is for two flight test vehicles. These are in the sequence of operation the A330 for the wing trials at large Reynolds numbers using a wing glove. If on the other hand the time constraint is regarded to be of no significance, the trials of the engine nacelle and the wing glove can be carried out together on an A330, however, with separate demonstrations of the drag reduction achieved by the hybrid laminar flow control for the engine nacelle and the wing glove, respectively.
