Abstract

In the context of "Light Propeller Driven Aeroplane" noise certification according to the ICAO ANNEX 16 Chapter 10 procedure, there has been - for many years- an ongoing debate on how to perform an accurate Mach number correction to account for the effect on propeller noise of ambient air temperature under test conditions. If the maximum flyover noise level, as determinde for certification pruposes, is governed by excessive engine noise radiation (instead of propeller noise) any Mach number correction of the noise data from measurement towards reference temperature conditions is erroneous by definitionÖ.
