Abstract

A comprehensive program has been executed to develop test hardware for investigating in a wind tunnel test the engine/airframe integration for ultra high bypass ratio engines (UHBR). The new hardware existed of compressed air powered simulators for turbofan and UHBR engines jointly with the necessary new auxilliary systems. The other hardware needed for the wind tunnel test was already available and included one simulator of both types and a twin-engine transport aircraft. During the acceptance test and the subsequent calibration of the simulators, the new hardware proved that it fulfilled its expectations. Detailed information was obtained from the wind tunnel test showing how the engine flow affects the flow field around the airframe. This proved that powered engine simulators are useful tools for engine/airframe interference investigations.
