Abstract

Optical depths of stratospheric and of tropospheric aerosols can be estimated using radiance measurements in the O2A-band from satellite over the oceans. An algorithm for solving the inverse problem is presented. The kernel functions of this inverse problem are determined by atmospheric transmission T02 in the O2A-band region. Therefore, accurate modelling of transmission T02 is very important for good estimation of optical depths. Errors of modelling and their influence on estimated optical depths are discussed.
