Abstract

A technique is described which has been used to generate a Digital Terrain Model of the region west of the crater Tsiolkovskiy (on the lunar farside). This involves scanning the stereo photographic prints from the Apollo Metric camera, identifying manually the control points and reseau marks on the digitized images, and then matching the stereo pair automatically. The resulting disparity data are then fed through a camera model and a digital terrain model is produced. The technical problems encountered during this excercise are described and the resulting DTM and the application of the technique to other areas oof the Moon are discussed.
