For several years, optical communication has enjoyed a profound development. Advances in technology and system design have not only extended the present application, but have also led to new fields of applications such as optical space communication. This proceedings will highlight current results. The papers deal with systems, optical and electronical subsystems, as well as components such as telescopes, optical modulators, and lasers, which present a key component in optical space communication systems. The papers of this proceedings show that research in the area of coherent optical space systems is growing rapidly. More and more industrial companies, university institutes, and public research establishments are starting research and development projects dealing with this very promising transmission technique.
