Abstract

A new method for determination of the position and velocity of the SAR-platform will be presented, which is based on the evaluation of radar data and inertial data of an Attitude and Heading Reference Unit. This method is used for motion compensation of the airborne SAR system E-SAR of DLR. The radar data are evaluated by the Reflectivity Displacement Method (RDM), which allows an accurate detection of the Doppler shift of the backscattered radar signal. The extraction of the forward velocity from the frequency shift data is performed by means of the complementary acceleration data supplied by the inertial system instead of lowpass and highpass filtering.
