Abstract
C-band scatterometer of ERS-1 are used to investigate radar signatures of land surface and their seasonal variation. In this paper we illustrate the capabilities of the ERS-1 scatterometer data for global land surface monitoring. For climate modelling global information on leaf area index, soil moisture and vegetation type are very important and may be obtained from these data.
