Abstract

In this paper we present two important applications of a special software tool - the PerformanceEstimator (PE) - and its role using the technique of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) in the area of remote sensing. The first application includes the integration of the PE in a complete chain of software tools for mission planning and mission operastions. In its second application the PE is used as a stand alone software tool for sensor design and sensor assessment by examining the changes in the performance as a function of sensor parameters which are to be optimised. After this a comparison can be carried out between expected and actual performance associated with existing SAR sensors.
