Abstract

The formal solutions of various 'OPCEC' expressions for the Sinclair, Graves, covariance, Mueller and Kennaugh matrices are presented. In paritular, it is shown that the OPCEC expressions of the 3 x 3 symmetric covariance matrix provide optimal insight into the interpretation of depolarization effects. Utilizing measurement data sets collected with various fully polarized (scattering matrix acquisition) POL-RAD and POL-SAR systems, some of the many interesting properties of the 'OPCEC' formalism are interpreted.
