Abstract
Die Shuttle Radarlag-Missionen mit X-SAR werden beschrieben und die geplanten Experimente im Zusammenhang mit dem globalen Erdsystem durchgeführt. Es wird gezeigt, daß die genauen Messungen der Erdoberfläche mit abbildenden Radarsystemen Beiträge zum Verständnis des Kohlendioxyduzyklus und zum Wasserkreislauf liefern und daß man darüber hinaus Erkenntnisse über klimatische und geologische Prozesse gewinnt. Ein Ausblick auf zukünftige Systeme wird gegeben.
