Abstract
Presently, several spaceborne remote sensing SAR missions for earth observation are in preparation, e.g. X-SAR/SIR-C (Germany, Italy, USA), JERS-1 (Japan), and PRIRODA (GUS). The sensor package of the first European remote sensing satellite ERS-1 also comprises an imaging SAR system. For an optimum use of the data acquired by such systems an accurate calibration is absolutely necessary.
