Abstract

At DLR Goettingen tests have been carried out to compare the performance of a turbine-powered engine simulator (TPS) in the calibration facility and in the wind tunnel. In addition to the measurement of the thrust, the massflows and its internal temperatures and pressures, the flow field of the engine's jet was measured in several vertical planes by means of a five-tube probe. The paper gives a very comprised description of the conventional TPS calibration procedure and a comment on its shortcomings. Subsequently the test setup of the TPS in the calibration facility (ETG) and in the wind tunnel (NWG) is shown, including the TPS itself, its cowlings and instrumentation and the five-tube probe used for the jet measurements. Finally the results of both the comparative TPS and the jet measurements are presented.
