Abstract

The paper addresses major aspects of IR sensor system design for different applications like forest fire detection and analysis, environmental monitoring, traffic flow observation, and tasks for security purposes. The sensor platforms used depend on the application area and cover a broad range: satellites, aircrafts, and ground based systems. The IR detector technologies under consideration are cooled detectors on MCT basis (Mercury Cadmium Telluride) and uncooled detectors of the microbolometer type.
