Abstract
The authors present the possibilities for the airborne application of a digital camera originally developed for Mars Missions. This multispectral, multi-line (9) and multi-stereo pushbroom instrument provides digital ortho-images and digital surface models with an accuracy if 10-20 cm. For a survey altitude of 6,000 m the pixel size is 24 cm and the accuracy 20 cm rms in x and y, and 30 cm rms in z. Since the first airborne experiments (May 1997), the HRSC-A system has been successfully used in various applications. The present article is written in a joint effort between DLR, ISTAR (France) and Geodan Geodesie (The Netherlands). Applications in the fields of telecom network planning, GIS applications, 3D-modelling, environmental monitoring, mapping/map updating and visualisation are explored in particular.
