Extending the works of Puck and Cunzte, et al., the so-called "Simple Parabolic Criterion" (SPC) for quasi-static loads has been adapted to orthogonal 3D fibre reinforced plastics consisting of unidirectional layers with high in_plane fibre density and fibre reinforcements orthogonal to the layers with a significant lower fibre density. It is shown, that by fitting the strength parameters to test results, the complete strength spectrum of an additionally orthogonal reinforced unidirectional layer can be simulated with the modified SPC. Using 2-D shell and 1-D beam elements the tool CODAC (Composite Damage Tolerance Analysis Code) is capable of the fast impact simulation of composite stringer-stiffened panels. Contact is modelled with the Hertzian contact law. Several stress based fibre, inter-fibre and delamination failure criteria can be used to predict failure due to low-energy impact, which often is invisible to the naked eye. Good correlation of experimental and simulation results is found for the transient impact response as well as for the delamination damage due to impact loading.
