This paper summarizes DLR design efforts and test results of an injection head of a 45 kg/s steam generator (SG) based on rocket combustion principle. Propellants in use are liquid oxygen (LOX) and ethanol (80%). Principles of design, design evolution and hot firing results are presented. Experimental investigations of combustion stability of the 45 kg/s SG in order to increase margin to combustion instability are summarised. Subjects of tests are an adjustable quarter wave tube ring and a pototype baffle. The most promising absorber type to be integrated into the SG was found to be the baffle. Design modifications of the injector design since 2001 are described.
