Abstract

Particle image velocimetry (PIV) is used to investigate the flow field in a supersonic model combustion chamber. Flow velocities up to 1000 m/s are measured. Characteristic shock waves, expansion fans and the mixing layer between the fuel and the air flows can be clearly identified. The flow field in the combustion chamber is investigated with and without combustion for two different fuel injection geometries. The choice of suitable seeding particles is also discussed.
