The DLR has collaborated with European partners within the European Commission (CEC) sponsored programmes on Industrial and Material Technology Programs (IMT) "Crashworthiness for Commercial Aircraft" (Framework 3), "Commercial Aircraft - Design for Crash Survivability" (CRASURV/Framework 4) and "High Velocity Impact of Composite Aircraft Structures" (HICAS/Framework 4)on the numerical crash and high velocity simulation studies of metallic and composite sub-components of aircraft structures. Both hybrid simualtion techniques (KRASH) as well as Finite Element (FE) based crash codes were used for the simualtions. All simualtion studies could be correlated with data of crash and high velocity impact tests which were performed within the programs.
