Particle image velocimetry (PIV) is used to investigate the flow field in supersonic model combustion chambers. Flow velocities up to 1000 m/s are measured. Characteristic shock waves, expansion fans and the mixing layer between the fuel and the air flows can be clearly identified. The flow field in a model combustion chamber (M11.1 at DLR Lampoldshausen)is investigated by PIV with and without combustion. The choice of suitable seeding particles is also discussed. Additionally at the same flow conditions the wall pressure was measured along the lower and upper wall and the Schlieren technique was applied to visualize the flow structures.
