Abstract

The High Enthalpy Shock Tunnel Göttingen (HEG) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) was recently equipped with a conical nozzle. For different HEG operating conditions, calibration results of this nozzle will be presented. The measured free stream quantities: Pitot pressure, density, static pressure, temperatur and velocity will be compared with computations using the DLR CEVCATS-N Code. Additional to the investigation of the nozzle flow itself, the study of flow fields past simply shaped models are well suited for the characterization of the free stream. Here, the flow past a circular cylinder has been chosen. For both the nozzle flow and the cylinder flow the influence caused by the arrival of helium driver gas will be discussed
