Abstract

Spectroscopie techniques in use on the High Enthalpy Shock Tunnel HEG to characterize the free stream flow and to probe the gas properties in the vicinity of test models are discussed. Results are presented on the powerful emission emanating from behind strong shocks, on the problems encountered in using nitric oxide laser induced fluorescence in these difficult enviroments (as studied in test cell and HEG work), and on diode laser absorption work using seeded rubidium to probe the free stream temperatures and flow velocities
