Abstract
In the present study, computed results for a modified US Space Shuttle Orbiter are presented for the test case No. 8 defined for the Fourth European High-Velocity Database Workshop. This modified orbiter configuration was also tested in the USA numerically [WGG93] and experimentally [BPW94]. The conditions for the flow simulation correspond to the experiments carried out by Dassault Aviation [GSB94] at ONERA S4 Modane: Mach number 9.8, total temperature 1100K, Reynolds number 0.61 x 10 millions, incidence 40°, body-flap deflection 15°, surface temperature 300K. In the following sections a description of the computational grid used is presented, followed by a summary of the characteristics of the computer code. Then, the numerical accuracy of the solution is discussed by means of convergence studies and correlation with the available experimental data. Finally, some remarks are formulated.
