Abstract

The existing code NAV2D of DLR using the dual time stepping for solving the unsteady two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations is improved. The stability restriction forthe pseudo timestep size for the inner iterations is bypassed by implementing a new point implicit method. Additionally the new version of the code is able to handle variable timesteps. An algorithm with automatically determines the timestep size corresponding to the unsteady flow physics is implemented. Results are presented for the pitching oscillation of the NACA0012 profile for viscous and inviscid flows.
