An experiment has been performed in a turbulent boundary layer wind tunnel to study the coherent structures taking part in generation and preservation of wall turbulence. The Reynolds number based on momentum thickness was varied between 7500 and 19000 with a boundary layer thickness of about 0.35 m. The study was mainly done using 2D2C PIV by Carlier (2001) and 2D3C PIV by Kähler and Stanislas (2000). This measurement technique gives access to the instantaneous velocity fields in various planes. The indicative functions of the regions occupied in these fields by eddy structures are computed in order to determine their mean characteristics and their possible cross-relationships which take part in the spatial organisation of wall turbulence.
