The tutorial gives a descriptive introduction to the subject of automobile aeroacoustics. It is meant for an audience which has a basic understanding of acoustics and aerodynamics but had todate little exposure to the specific problems facing an automobile aeroacoustician. The wide spectrum of problems encountered to make a road vehicle quieter both inside and outside prevent a comprehensive treatment of the individual problems in the framework of the tutorial. The goal is therefore to initiate the participants in the salient aspects of the problems involved and deepen the inside with the presentation of a number of exemplary cases. The major focus of the presentation material is on air-flow induced noise. However a brief excursion into structure-borne noise would be undertaken to explain the phenomena.
