A high resolution multispectral stereo camera developed for extraterrestrial remote sensing and adapted for airborne operation has been tested over active volcanoes to assess its potential for applications in volcanology and comparative planetology. High resolution digital elevation models and multispectral orthoimages have been derived using an automated photogrammetric processing system based on digital image matching and multiple stereo. The encouraging quality of the results is discussed with respect to envisaged application fields. It is expected that this new data source will give strong impulse for methodological development within the geoscientific and related disciplines.
